On May 3, the Sky Over Montrose Harbor will be Filled with Kites

Nothing brings out the joy in life quite like flying a kite on a beautiful day. That’s why Chicago is holding its 16th annual Kids & Kites festival!

The free event is fun for the whole family. Children can express their creativity by designing and building their own kites with kits provided by The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. They will also have a ball enjoying the Kohl’s Story Bus Giant Kite Flyer, face painting, balloon artists and crafts!

The fun begins on Saturday, May 3 at 10 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m. at Cricket Hill, Montrose Harbor, in Lincoln Park near the intersection of Lake Shore Drive and Montrose.

Families can enjoy the beautiful harbor and also learn something new in the professional kite flying demonstrations, where they give instructions and tips on how to fly a kite. Making memories with the kids is what Kids & Kites is all about!

Perhaps the most exciting part of the afternoon for the kids will be the flying of the Big Kite Candy Drop, a kite that, like a piñata, is filled with candies that drop from the sky. What is more like a kid’s dream than having it rain candy?

Those who want to purchase a kite can choose from a variety of designs onsite at the Kite Harbor booth. Food will also be available on the grounds from Robinson’s No. 1 Ribs. (Chicken sandwiches & boneless rib sandwiches, hotdogs, hamburgers, fries, nachos, funnel cakes, chips/popcorn, pop and water).
