Millennium Park’s summer concert

This summer the Millennium Park Music Series returns to Jay Pritzker Pavillion to feature a compilation of free concerts includes 3 ongoing events that you simply can’t miss. Curated by the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, the series features indie, pop, rock, electronica, jazz, and more. Here is the rundown of what’s playing:

Downtown Sound (May 27 – July 29) – This concert series will host indie, rock and pop acts on Monday evenings starting at 6:30 p.m. Here’s what’s on the schedule:

May 27—Lee Ranaldo Band and Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog

June 3—Sharon Van Etten and Speck Mountain

June 10—An Evening with Glen Hansard featuring Lisa Hannigan and members of The Frames

June 17—Daniel Lanois and Brokeback

July 1—Lee Fields & the Expressions and Theo Huff and the Platinum Band

July 8—Dawes and The Cairo Gang

Loops & Variations (June 13-27, July 4, July 11, July 18)—This series features new music mixed with electronica, gospel and jazz, and runs on an assortment of different dates. The schedule:

Made in Chicago: World Class Jazz (July 25-August 29)—This series features Jazz music is featured six consecutive Thursday nights, culminating with the kickoff of the 35th Annual Chicago Jazz Festival on Aug. 29. The music series is programmed in partnership with Jazz Institute of Chicago and with the support of the Chicago Community Trust. For 2013, World Class Jazz will be dedicated to the late Helen Doria, the first Executive Director at Millennium Park, who conceived and launched the series in the summer of 2005.
